Timeshare Scams – Public Exposure

Timeshare-Scams---Public-Exposure, Cancel Timeshare

You see questions and criticism about social media, but a significant benefit is shared information about timeshare scams. A Facebook page titled Westgate Resort – Scams is a prime example. Let’s examine specific complaints about the largest privately-owned vacation ownership company in the world, according to Westgate.

The Promise Land of Vacation Ownership
Westgate’s promotes over 28 destinations from Las Vegas and Myrtle Beach to Orlando and Gatlinburg. The Westgate promise – “Vacation ownership in a timeshare like Westgate Resorts lets you choose the high road of vacations . . . an extraordinary array of resort style activities and amenities.”

A significant court challenge and judgment
A couple of years ago, Westgate Resorts lost a consumer lawsuit that challenged its sales practices and faced a $500,000 judgment for “intentional and fraudulent conduct.” The Gatlinburg timeshare buyers in this case testified to enduring an 8-hour, high-pressure sales pitch with false claims.

Essentially, the couple paid nearly $40,000 and were promised the use of additional nights at various Westgate resorts for only $59 per night only later to be told they didn’t qualify. Westgate staff continuously deceived the owners in convoluted booking processes and ever-changing rules. In court, Westgate’s attorney referred to the situation as an isolated incident. The Supreme Court refused Westgate’s request for a review.

Lengthy list of Westgate timeshare complaints
The Westgate scam Facebook page offers complaint after complaint of prolonged sales presentations, false promises and mistreatment – an impossible reservations system, sub-standard resort conditions, extra charges, escalating maintenance fees – a very long list. Owners claim losses from $1,000 to $40,000. Disrespectful and unresponsive staff and management rank high among complaints, as well.
